Outfit of the Day- Sept. 30,2010

Lace Gail Dress

Today I went to visit the Kate Spade outlet store to see if there was anything there I could get for my birthday.  I wore my lace Gail dress and I belted it to give it some shape and shorten it a bit.  It would have looked really good with colored tights but it was supposed to get to 90 degrees today.  So much for the recent cold front...
I forgot to add my hot pink quinn in the picture. That really makes the pink necklace pop! I always wear my Les Fleurs neckace with it because that is how ksny styled it in that first wonderful ad campaign for the new apparel collection fall of 2009. I took off the black flowers because it was too big for everyday wearing.  I put them back on for special occasions...
I wanted to be this girl!
I remember the first day I saw those pictures on kate spade.com and fell in love! It is funny I remember exactly where I was sitting when I saw them and I quickly called my daughter in to ohh and ahh over them.  Each season's collection has been great but, that one will always be special to me!

So, I think I am going to get the little owl purse from the outlet for my birthday because I was going to get a gold quinn but I can get a quinn any-time!  The little Maximilian Owl was just begging me to take him home!  I have to decide tonight and then go back tomorrow and bring him home.  They have him in the back for safe-keeping.  There is a lovely sale that starts tomorrow also.  It will make the $298 price tag much lower and then I will be able to get something else too!  What do you think?  If I have to choose between a quinn and the owl, which one is the better purchase?
he is so cute, and would make a great birthday present!

My New Kate Spade Barbie!

This is my first birthday present!  Isn't she so cute?  I have wanted a Kate Spade Barbie for years.  Now I am stuck with the dilemma of "do I take it out of the box and display it in my closet?" or "do I keep it in mint unopened condition for my grandchildren to inherit?".  I wondered if any of you had one of these precious Barbie dolls and If you did, what would you do?

Liz Claiborne Inc., owner of kate spade new york is (hopefully) turning around!

What is going to happen to ksny if Liz Claiborne goes under?  My beloved kate spade is making a substantial earnings contribution to the "mother company"!  I was reading the earnings statement  for second quarter from Liz and while it is going down, ksny is doing great!  This is a quote I cut and pasted from the report:

Net sales for kate spade were $42 million, a 24.9% increase compared to 2009, primarily driven by increases in specialty retail, e-commerce, wholesale apparel and wholesale non-apparel. Store counts and key operating metrics are as follows:

  • We ended the quarter with 39 specialty stores and 29 outlet stores, reflecting the net closure over the last 12 months of 9 specialty stores;
  • Average retail square footage in the second quarter was approximately 139 thousand square feet, a 9.9% decrease compared to 2009;
  • Sales per square foot for comparable stores for the latest twelve months were $591; and
  • Comparable store sales increased 15.2% in the second quarter.
Yay, kate spade new york!   I hope you do well enough to help Liz Claiborne Inc. out of this downward spiral of debt ($590 million) and if not, someone buys you and doesn't change a thing.  I have hope in the leadership at Liz and ksny.  I know they are all doing their best to help the recovery.  Liz is even closing all their outlet stores and have made a deal with JC penny and QVC to sell the Liz Claiborne brand. I found this Reuters article on the turnaround at Liz. I hope the working atmosphere is okay and not stressed out because of the money problems.  I wouldn't want any grey clouds to overshadow the colorful world of kate spade new york!!!

kate spade new york Cape May Ronnie Dress
I live in Houston, Texas and we have absolutely NO fall!  I am trying to get the fall feeling using some of my summer clothes that are in fall colors. This Cape May Ronnie dress is part of the Summer collection for ksny but, because it is brown, I am attempting to make it early fall.  It is 90 degrees outside so this is as fall as I am going to get for a while. Today I ordered two featherweight cashmere sweaters from J crew to wear over my dresses and with my skirts in the cooler weather.  I hope they are not too hot for Texas!  What kind of weather are you having right now and how are you adapting your wardrobe to the season change????

what I am wearing:
kate spade new york Cape May Ronnie Dress- Summer 2010
Forever 21 Blue short sleeve Cardigan with roses
Forever 21 Olive green necklace
kate spade new york Lady Marmalade earrings in amber
Silver leather skinny belt
Harold's Leopard shoes (invisible in the pic...sorry)

New Look with the kate spade new york Tutti-Frutti skirt

Today I tried a different look for my ksny Tutti Frutti skirt.  Instead of wearing a cream sweater I tried my black one with the pink flowers.  It is definitely a different look.  I think is looked better in person, I think the flash was on and kind of changed the color of the pink flowers on the sweater.  I wore this outfit to lunch with my husband and children to celebrate my daughter's 14th birthday. We party all week for a birthday!!! Mine is coming up on Oct. 1.  I can't wait!  I think I want another Quinn in a fun color like green or purple.  I really want another esti skirt but I have so many...ksny doesn't have any in the line right now anyway but Neiman Marcus has some in the sale section online.  I could use a cardigan to wear with my black dress that readers are helping me to style.  I might look at katespade.com to see if anything jumps out at me.

This is my lovely daughter with her kate spade handbag and vintage dress headed to her 14th birthday celebration.  Isn't she just a doll? She is growing up so fast...

Outfit of the Day- Sept. 21,2010

Today I am going to Bible Study and then out to lunch with my daughter Madeline, her friend Brittany and Brittany's mother.  It is Madeline's birthday tomorrow so we are celebrating today! I decided to wear pink in celebration of having a baby girl 14 years ago.  I added a cardigan in a royal blue to make things even more colorful. Now that I look at it in the photo, I don't like it too much but too late...
I am wearing:
Kate Spade Jory Dress Spring 2009
Royal Blue Cardigan
Van ELi wedges

Kate Spade Bow ring
Kate Spade Quinn in hot pink

Help me style this Kate Spade Dress!!!

I have had this Kate Spade dress hanging in my closet for a while and never wear it.  I need some help styling it to wear somewhere other than a formal event.  It is actually a cotton satin so it could be dressed down for lunching or shopping.  I don't like the cut of the shoulders because it shows bra straps.  I wondered if I could wear something under it like a t-shirt or blouse...Maybe just a cardigan over it?  Could I wear a jean jacket and some layered jewelry?  The bow does not come off so a belt is not possible.  Any help is appreciated!

Stripes, Denim and Spade

Today I am going shopping and to a friend's birthday party. I was really wanting to wear stripes today, so I put together this little outfit to get a more casual look from one of my Kate Spade Esti skirts.  The colors in the skirt are such a unique combination and so fresh looking.  I have always considered this skirt a spring item but adding the black stripe top and distressed denim vest gives it a more year-round look. (I hope...) Do you think this works or should I stick to the simple sweater set look with this skirt? I am trying to spice things up a bit using my existing wardrobe (that I love, of course) instead of going out and buying lots of new things for fall.  I am trying for quality not quantity...that means fewer clothes...

I am wearing:
Kate Spade Esti skirt from spring 2009
Forever 21 Stripe knit top
Levi's distressed denim vest
Kate Spade Disco Fever Pendant
Grandmother's pearl earrings
Van Eli shoes with Lucite heel
Kate Spade Ouinn in Hot Pink

Saturday Casual

Today is a lazy Saturday and I am trying to get a little more use out of my summer clothes before putting them away for fall.  I love the new Kate Spade jeans but they are so dark I have to be careful not to sit on my cream sofa with them on.  Dark jeans are so slimming and the skinny cut works well for me.  I am definitely a "skirt girl" but these are comfy and nice for a Saturday.  I am wearing the Kate Spade Bloomington Daisy top in green from Spring 2009 and Green KS loafers from 2004. I put on a statement necklace from my collection for a little dress up when I go out to dinner tonight with my daughter.  It will probably be pizza, Yummy!

Today I am going to the mall with Maddy to pick up some more jewelry from Forever 21.  They have the best, cheapest jewelry anywhere on the planet!  That cute little owl necklace I am wearing today was $4.80 at Forever 21. The amber stones on the owl are the same color as my Kate Spade Lady Marmalade ring which was $149.  That is a good example of "high-low" style.  The owl was really low! I also love pairing Kate Spade and J Crew together.  They complement each other very well and create a whole new look when put together.

What I am wearing today:
Kate Spade Esti Skirt from spring 2009-Navy
Kate Spade Ruffle top from spring 2009- Navy
J Crew Jackie cardigan in burnished olive
Lady Marmalade ring
Lady Marmalade earrings
Owl Necklace- forever 21

Darcy Miller (good friend of our beloved Kate Spade),from Martha Stewart Weddings previewed the Spring 2011 Kate Spade Apparel and Accessories Collection. The theme for 2011 is "A Year of Color". Each month will have a color emphasis (January is red, February is pink etc...). The clothing and accessories will be available in an array of colors but the focus will be on one color each month. I think I will have to get a Quinn handbag to add to my collection for each color so I can play along too! Darcy has lots of pictures of the collection that you can look at to see what is coming up. Broome Street Jean from Kate Spade $198

Broome Street Jean $198
These are the newest addition to the KSNY apparel collection.  I love a good jean!  I wonder how the size runs...I will probably have to venture to the store to try some on.  I may just order a couple sizes to try on so I don't have to go to the Galleria.  I love the dark wash and the pink stitching on the inside. Thank you Kate Spade for finally making a jean to go with all those cute KS tops that I have in my closet! xoxoxox!

New Shoes- Kate Spade Christa in Violet

Yes, these are mine!  All mine!

I wore them to church Sunday with the Lace Gail Dress from Fall 09.  I paired it with a black cardi and a super thin belt over both the cardigan and the dress.  No flower necklace today, just some pearls because I wanted the shoes to be the jewelry.  The cardigan toned down the white and made the dark grey lining of the dress stand out better.  I will take a pic next time....

Maximillian the Owl- Amazing New Handbag at Kate Spade Outlet

Little Maximillian the Owl handbag sold only at Kate Spade Outlets. He has a little brother coin purse that looks just like him! This is so cute and great for fall! If you give an outlet a call, they will send him to you right away!

*update* I got the owl bag for my birthday and totally LOVE it! I have gotten so many compliments while out shopping.  A sales person at Anthropologie went nuts over it and followed me around the store looking at it.  I told her to look on ebay for one.  I hope she found it.  She was obsessed!
