This is precious!  Notice where it was filmed...the pop-up shop in London!  I am in love with the red typewriter!  I also love that yellow sweater that I didn't get last summer!  Why is it always the one that got away? What stands out to you in this little film?  It is so packed with eye-candy!

Field trip to Bluebell Ice Cream Factory-kate spade Dinah jacket in gerbera with Jeans and scarf

I had so much fun today with my family visiting the Bluebell Ice Cream factory in Brenham, Tx.  We toured the lovely factory and had our choice of ice cream from the little ice cream parlor there.  I was wearing my Dinah jacket with jeans and my Coach bow flats.  It was such a fun day and the ice cream is yummy!

New kate spade Pink and green Wardrobe Capsule Video

I just made a short video today of a pink and green wardrobe capsule.  I used 2 skirts and 2 sweaters with tanks underneath. I ended up cutting a lot out of the video to make it shorter so you wouldn't be bored.  I hope you like it!

I wore this elyse dress to church with black tights and some sparkley glitter heels but when I got home I took the tights off and put on some flats to run around after church.  I might need to hem this dress but, for now, I just belted it and bunched it up so it is shorter.  I would rather not have to hem it.  It takes me almost just as long to make one of my stripe skirts as hem (by hand) a silk dress.  This is a great run around dress that can convert to a lunch with the girls dress or even dinner with the right accessories. I think I may try it next with my Levi's jean jacket and black flats.

Outfit of the Day- kate spade Briella Dress

It was a cold, cold day so I had to wear my Great Grandmother's Leopard coat. I just had to show you a picture of it.  I love it so much but, rarely get to wear it here in Houston.  It is so heavy that you have to take it off in the car or you get too hot!
Today, I wore my Black kate spade Briella dress and red tights with my Coach bow flats.  The bag is the ksny All Typed Up Clyde.  I was wearing my ks daisy necklace and bow ring.  I think I should have been born with that ring on my finger, It just belongs there!
I went to the outlet mall and bought a few kate spade goodies and a J Crew shirt for my son. He is 17 and very handsome. Of course that is a mom speaking... you know how kids have their "types", well Harrison is one of the musician, video game, change the world types.  He is starting to like clothes and style more so that is exciting for me.  He really likes Urban Outfitters and J Crew.  He wants to be a lawyer so he will need to learn how to dress as part of his education right?  At least that is what I keep telling him!

Madeline is wearing a skirt that I am thinking of adding to my collection on etsy.  I made a sample to see if I like it enough to add it to my shop's offerings.  Def. for summer but she was giving it a trial run for me so she styled it for winter.  We have so much fun playing with clothes!

I have been waiting and waiting for these!  I love them soooooo much!  Emma is one of my favorite books of all time and now I can have it in a clutch!  When I sell enough skirts to afford it! kate spade outfit of the day- Green striped skirt, J Crew cardi, Les Fleurs Necklace, Disco Bracelet, Bow Ring and ks Loafers

I made a green skirt and just had to try it out with a hot pink J crew Cardi. I am carrying my hibiscus Quinn and wearing my hot pink Les Fleurs necklace.  I have Kate Spade (notice the capital letters...that is THE Kate Spade) loafers from 2004 that exactly match my skirt.  All the other jewelry is not visible in the photo but really made the outfit more fun!  So much for RED!  I promise I will wear it tomorrow!

Of all the company "tweets" out there, I have found @katespadeny to be the most unique and fun of the whole bunch!  I love to see what their "tweeter" is up to and what fun quotes, activities or product updates they are posting all through the day.  So many companies have a social media presence but kate spade does more than that.  They have created a "friend" from kate spade that tweets just for you!  Of course I love to be in the loop but this is even better, you are on the front row of what is going on at kate spade and in new york in general.  I am updated on the weather, lunch places, parties, theater, shopping etc...

Cute aren't they?  It makes me want to go to the shop so bad!  I am going to be close today but in too much of a hurry to stop in.  I really want a pair of yellow tights to wear with my blue stripes.  I saw them there with the stripe Briella and loved them.  I loved the Briella too.  I think of everything out right now, that  dress is one of my favorites.   I wish I had a job so I could wear more dressy clothes.  Oh wait, I can wear whatever I want!  I think I may wear a  Briella tomorrow, black with red tights!  Is that a good plan?

kate spade outfit of the day- Picnic Tweed Sandie Jacket, Tulleries Necklace

Okay, this is a really bad representation of the outfit I wore today!  It was time for bed and I was going to put on my pjs and I realized that I did not have this outfit documented yet.  This is for me so I can remember what I put together with what.  I thought I looked great all day and now seeing this picture, I wonder about this combo.  I think it is the bad lighting and tired model.  It is paybacks for not wearing red today.  I just wasn't feelin the RED thing today.  I figured Deborah Lloyd wouldn't mind if I strayed from the color of the month as long as I "live colorfully"!  Purple sweater and purple tights was a very colorful combination but I didn't get any compliments on my outfit except for the necklace.  There is always tomorrow to try again...

kate spade has introduced a new logo! A Spade! Cliché but cute.

The new kate spade logo is a SPADE! I am a little disappointed that it is not more creative and unique. Let's call a spade a spade, it is so cliché, like Target having a target for a logo.  I guess I am sorry I was not part of the creative process but I will learn to love it anyway.  After all, it is kate spade!  I so loved the monogram KS logo and the license plate logo.  I hope this will just be an addition to bring in the "young, hip generation".  I after all am one of the initial Kate Spade fans from 1990's!  I remember when the monogram was introduced, I didn't like it right away, it had to grow on me.  I am sure this spade will too!

I love the spade on the flats! Although, I am not a poker player so I guess I won't get them.  Definitely not like the Tori Burch logo that is so well loved! Even though I love it here, I wouldn't buy them in every color like I would the Tori Burch Revas.

I guess that there are places the new logo works nicely.  I am sure the creative geniuses at kate spade new york have lots of plans for the logo and I will love them! If any of my readers can enlighten me on the creative process behind this logo, please do!  I just have to wonder why Kate Spade didn't use the spade as her logo years ago?  That could say something about the way the brand is evolving(good or bad).  I can't wait to see what the future holds!

kate spade outfit of the day- Emerald Isle Embellished Kimi Cardigan, Anthro Lost in Time Skirt- Inspired by Anjali of Goldenmeans

Such a pretty girl!

yes,  I am a copycat!  I saw the lovely Anjali of Goldenmeans wearing the Anthro Lost in Time skirt with red and I had to do the same (in honor of the ksny color of the month, of course!)  I love the way the red works with the neutrals and the black to balance the clocks on the skirt.  Plain black just didn't work because the bottom half was so strong and graphic.  The kate spade embellished kimi cardigan is the only reddish color I have, hopefully soon to be remedied by getting the Red Intarsia Bow cardi from kate spade. I did pick up a great cardigan in coral from Target yesterday.

It looks super great in person.  The white decoration is made of white jewels and beads.  For the price, I could not pass it up!  When the ksny color of the month is coral I will be all set!

 This spring, kate spade new york has introduced some new porcelain dinnerware to their Lenox offerings. I am very interested because this year is my 20th anniversary and I want to get new china to celebrate!  I have really good Royal Doulton Heather china which is cream with a gold band.  I find that it is too formal and simple for most of my entertaining.  I also have a Victorian rose china that is very pretty but quite girly, so I save it for my tea parties and luncheons.

 I am in the market for some really nice porcelain dinnerware or some new bone china.  Currently, I am liking the kate spade china with the dragonfly in the gold color.  Now that I have seen the Market Street Collection, I may choose that as a less expensive, more fun and casual alternative.  I am still pressed with the dilemma of "what color?" I should chose.  I may go with the green because I don't need anymore pink dishes.  I wish there were yellow ones.  I am really into yellow right now, but green is close.  The blue is nice too and would match almost anything.  What would you choose?

kate spade outfit of the day- Gail Corsage top, homemade stripe skirt & J Crew Jackie cardi

Today I am wearing a skirt I made last night from fabric I bought yesterday.  I have 2 more planned in yellow, red and green stripe.  I took the flowers off of my green Carnation Gail top from KS and put pins on the back.  Now I can wear the top with or without the flowers and use the flowers wherever else I want.  I pinned one on a headband and It was so cute, I will have to use it in my pink and green capsule for February.  I love J Crew Jackie cardigans and have many, this one is the greatest shade of pink!  Today kate spade announced the color red for this month but I was already dressed so I kept on the pink cardi.  I happened to be drinking some tea from the polka dot cup when my daughter was available to take my photo but it matched so I kept drinking.  I don't like lukewarm tea.  I love stripes and polka dots!

In January kate spade new york is Seeing Red!

check out the Behind the Curtian feature to find out all about the Year of Color!  January is RED and READ too as they have produced some great newspaper products this month also.  Watch my hilarious Youtube video about wardrobe capsules using the color red to get ideas of how to pair up some of your red pieces with black to create lots of outfits inspired by the color RED.  I even changed the color of my header to match the color of the month!  I love themes!  I used to be an elementary school teacher and  lived by color themes and holiday themes etc.  I am so excited that ksny has chosen this year to add some fun to our lives!

kate spade outfit of the day- White lace Gail dress with black cardi and teal accents

Today I decided to wear this outfit that I had planned for a couple months and never would choose it for some reason or other.  I was trying to "practice what I preach" about wearing your clothes and not just keeping them in the closet.  The last time I wore this dress was in October, so it was sitting long enough.  It is only a year old so it still needs to spend more time in circulation.  I will be looking for some new ways to wear it for the spring, but my favorite is the way it was styled by kate spade in their ad.

This is the way I will wear it next time!  Red tights, Les Fleurs necklace and hot pink bag with black flats.  I will have to use my Quinn because I don't have that cute pink bag.  The dress is a little long on me so I usually have to wear a belt to raise it up shorter.  Too bad I don't have a black balloon!  Maybe it will rain and I can carry my black and white polka dot umbrella.

I am getting excited about the new kate spade bedding collection that is coming to Bed Bath and Beyond!  I may have to save my clothing allowance to buy some pillows and a duvet. Check out lonnymag.com this month for a sneek peak at the heirloom rose collection!

*UPDATE*   I just checked eBay and there is a size 8 lace gail dress on sale right now!  BIN for $170 but it is bid up to $21.50 right now!  That is a DEAL!  It does run a little large but the style can be loose and still look good.

Red and Black kate spade Capsule Wardrobe

I know that I was pretty goofy in that video, but I really had fun trying on all those outfits! Next time I am going to do a kate spade capsule with pink and green.  I have so many pink things I can't wait to show you the outfits!

Just to recap:
I had 2 skirts and 2 tops and one sweater all in a red and black color story.  I added in a pair of jeans and an extra cardigan to mix it up and make more outfits.  You can also add a dress to the capsule to increase the options.  Every time you purchase something for that capsule, you increase the wardrobe options exponentially.  I am planning on getting the kate spade Intarsia bow cardigan in red to add to this Red and Black capsule for my Valentine outfits.  I can wear my black Briella dress with the red tights and shoes too! Then I would be able to carry my Clyde bag every day!

January 2011 kate spade wishlist! Let the wishing begin!

I might be wishing for too much to expect to get all these during January but I needed to start somewhere...

I tried on this Kollete skirt ($275) today at the ksny boutique.  It was perfect! It is at the top of my list.  I know that I will wear this skirt all the time!  The waist was high and the bow so fun!  It actually fit in a smaller size than usual!  Yay!

This stripe tee is next for only $145.  I will wear it with black and navy too!  Maybe even my bee cardi.

I already have the purple and the black in this Briella dress but this one is in cotton!  At $355 it may have to wait a little while.

I can always use a new scarf! Might even be a good little gift from my hubby for Valentine's day! The bow is so precious!

This Jillian dress is in cotton too and only $355.  This should really not on my list because I have enough black kate spade dresses but If if didn't, it would definitely be near the top.

This would be great for valentines day so I will have to buy it in January to have it for Feb. 14th!

Okay, this may have to go to the top of my list, It is so cute and only $125 for such a great timeless tank!

These are not kate spade but they are Bando shoe clips that I can attach to my kate spade shoes!  So Cute and only $25!

Every day something new is being added to katespade.com so this list may change tomorrow but I needed to start thinking about my future purchases so I don't waste my $$$ on junk somewhere else.  I have found that I wear my ksny apparel more than any other brand. 

I get more value per wear out of the clothes because I choose to wear them often instead of letting them sit in the closet.  A $400 dress worn 6 times is only $66 per wear but a $66 dress worn once and then banished to the closet is the same price per wear as the more expensive one.  If I love it, I make myself wear it.  I have made monthly outfit plans to make sure that my favorite pieces get out of the closet and put into outfits.  The worst thing to do is to "save" a favorite piece and never wear it.  If I love it, I wear it and wear it.  

Plan to wear your favorite things at least every other week or  you will find a season gone and miss out on wearing your special items more than once.  Good planning also means you are mixing and matching different things together to get a different look.  When you wear the same thing the same way, it can be repetitive but, pairing it with something else totally different keeps things fresh.  I will wear a dress once for Sunday church with heels and major jewelry then style it more casually the next time for lunch or shopping.  

Making wardrobe "capsules" that can be mixed and matched is another way to expand your options while wearing your favorite pieces different ways.  Two bottoms, two tops and a layering piece such as a cardi or jacket can really go a long way when supplemented by jeans and a couple of solid tees from target or J Crew. Throw a jean jacket into the mix and you have tons of options!  Play around with shoes, jewelry and scarves to further add to the different looks.    

I will do some capsule posts next week from my closet showing you how to mix things up yet keep the look cohesive.  Finding a common denominator such as color or fabric pattern helps tie things together.  

In January, kate spade is focusing on the color RED accented with black as you can see in the early spring things just added to the website.  This is the perfect way to start a wardrobe capsule.  The black skirt or hallie pant and lola houndstooth skirt, a white top such as the solid grace top and the red stripe bow tank can be combined into outfits by layering with a cardigan like the Intarsia bow in red or Genevieve in black. Add in your favorite little black dress and pair of jeans and you have a great wardrobe capsule.  You could dress for a month just using these pieces and adding accessories from your closet to change things up a bit.
