New Favorite kate spade bag! Barclay Street Sera

Barclay Street Sera $298

I am in love with this little bag!  It is made of patent leather (not PVC! YAY!) and is a small squarish shape with a cool stripe and brown leather accents.  In person, this bag is way too cute.  The stripe makes it even cuter but if you are into solids, this also comes in a red and black version.  I just thought you might have overlooked this little gem when you were visiting katespade.com so I wanted to point it out to you!

kate spade for the over 40 girl

I am really having an identity crisis. I am getting older every year! I have been noticing that most of my readers and most of the kate spade girls I know are under 30. When I began my love affair with Kate Spade (it was capitalized then...) I was in my early 30's.  At that time I was in the target age for the brand as they were going for ladies 28-58.  These were the ladies who bought the bags, shoes and stationary.  Since Deborah Lloyd took over in 2008, I noticed the age focus dropping considerably and now even my teenage daughter has a kate spade bag and dress.  Many of my blog readers are young professionals recently out of college such as lawyers and teachers .  Another group are the college students or law students who are in love with the kate spade new york look but it is out of their reach except as a gift on birthdays and holidays. They spend the rest of the year dreaming about ksny and finding the "look for less."  So what about the older kate spade girl?  Where is she?  Do the bright colors scare her off?  I went through a mostly black stage when I turned 39 where I gravitated to black and brown with only pops of color here and there.  I wonder if there are any other girls over 40 who love the kate spade brand and dress accordingly.  It is such a fun look, I wonder if the older crowd feels it is too young looking.  I on the other hand am planning on being a kate spade grandma!  I am going to be called "Glammy" instead of Grammy by my grandchildren.  Of course I do have a few years to prepare for that...

I would love to know if there are any over 40 kate spade-aholics out there other than me!

New Skirt design for my etsy shop!

Yay! I just listed an Embellished version of the Hartley skirt on my etsy shop .  I needed some more color and stripe in my life, so I sewed grosgrain ribbon trim on the bottom of the Classic Hartley skirts to make them into the Embellished Hartley skirts!!!  I really love the look.  I can wear them with my new stripe tees from forever 21 and with my J crew cardigans.  Go and visit my shop to see all the skirts that are available.

Outfit today: kate spade broome street jeans, forever 21 striped top, thrifted Ralph Lauren blazer and kate spade typewriter bag

Today I was feeling nautical because I have been looking at tons of Pinterest pictures of stripes and blazers with jeans. I have been looking at tons of flats in lots of different colors and forgot about this pair from my own closet.  I love the gold circle on the toe.  It is so nautical.  I found my navy blazer at Goodwill for $9. I actually own another version of this blazer that I purchased at the Ralph Lauren store for $$$lots more$$$.  I like this thrifted one better because it is longer and good for jeans.  My top is from forever 21.  The kate spade Broome Street jeans are the only jeans I wear now.  I did notice that the outlet has their own version of the jeans for $149 + whatever discount they have at the time.  It was 40% off when I was there last.  I may pick up some if they fit well.  I am wearing anchor earrings from forever 21. 

I love this classic combo!  I think I could wear a version of it everyday.

look for less does a much cheaper version of this outfit!

The website Look for Less has done a great job finding a much cheaper alternative of this kate spade outfit.  It shows how to get this $1600 look for $150!  Wow!  check it out here  I love finding ways to stretch my budget.  One thing that I tend to do is purchase one main spade item from a look I like and then find the rest at a much cheaper price point.  In the case of this outfit, it would be the jacket but, because I love the fit of the Broome St. jeans so much I would probably have to get them first because they could go with so many other outfits.

Oh MY!  Wouldn't my friends be envious....oh, they don't know who Florence Broadhurst is!  What a shame.

Today I wore my City Lights Lillith skirt again because I LOVE IT!  This time I styled it with a bright J crew cardigan and bow necklace from forever 21.  I am carrying my little Penguin tote from ksny just because he needed to get out and see the world a little bit.

Last week I wore this skirt with a striped tee, which I love.  Katie Evans, the talented artist who painted this skirt for kate spade, tweeted to me that she wears her skirt like this with stripes too!  Seeing as this month the emphasis is on stripes, I probably should have worn this shirt under the yellow sweater today but alas, it was still in the wash.

If you are like me, you are addicted to pinterest!  It used to be tumblr but pinterest is way more fun!  I have lots of boards and even use it for recipes.  Yes, me who never cooks has started making things in the kitchen because of pinterest!!! The jewelry is awesome too!  There are anchor earrings, bracelet and necklace and even some boat earrings. There is also a little suitcase locket! Wow!

I sure won't have a problem making outfits in stripes!  I have so many Katie skirts I think I could wear stripes every single day and not run out.  I would love that striped Jillian dress though.  It is cotton and linen so not really year round fabric and it may wrinkle too much.  I need to see it in person to decide.  I have been saving my $$ to be able to go on a kate spade spree.  I would like to wait just a bit longer before I spend it.  It is funny how you can get to where you don't want to buy anything, just save save save.  My kids are so good at that, I am hoping that it will rub off on me.  I have been doing much better but you don't get to see so many cute outfits because I am being frugal.  It is better that way. I don't want to be a temptation to others, I also don't want to live beyond my means.  It is hard after so long not to have outfit repeats but, because I have not been buying in a frenzy, there will have to be some this year.  I am going to stretch myself to be creative and make the clothes I have from even three years ago look fresh.  I may have to accent with Target items and wait for my spree to stock up on new kate spade merchandise. How do you make your wardrobe stretch?  How do you get the most use from your clothes without looking like you are wearing the same thing over and over?  Or, does it even matter if you wear the same thing?  Do people really care?  That question is important.  I need to find the answer to that one.

These other two looks are two of my favorites.  Leopard+Red=WOW! I am always a fan of colorblocking and silk dresses. I am glad to see some unique shapes and patterns in the collection.  I must say I have been a little bored these last few months.  The spring collection and the upcoming pre-fall look promising!

All Aboard Ship Clutch $358

Anyone taking a cruise this winter?  This little kate spade All Aboard Ship Clutch is perfect!  I love it so much.  It even has a nautical striped lining.  I doubt it would hold anything more than a credit card and lip stick but, who cares? You don't need much on a cruise anyway.

You could carry it with this cute striped dress!  This dress is made with a little stretch in it for comfort and it has buttons down the back.  It also comes in a black and navy combo.  I am all for the green one though!  I buy green whenever it is an option because it is one of my favorite colors.  I am going to do a capsule video someday with green and black.  I am collecting pieces for it now.  I need a green cardigan and a green tee shirt before I am ready.

kate spade pink Les Fleurs necklace, Bubble Gum Hartley skirt, ksny tights and black self-embelished cardigan

I love my Hot pink kate spade Les Fleurs necklace with the velvet flowers that I sewed on this black cardigan while watching a long bbc drama.

I have been saving my Hartley skirt in bubble gum to wear with my kate spade hot pink tights.  It really looks smashing with this black sweater.  I found the little pink velvet flowers at JoAnn fabrics in the trims aisle and sewed them all over the sweater to look as if they are falling down from the shoulder.  Oh, please don't look at the feet, I forgot to take off my hot pink slippers...I am staying home all day to sew so no shoes were needed!  I am a little wrinkly from sewing too!  Oh well, I thought someone should see my cute outfit of the day even though no one else will!

I love stripes and pick them up whenever I find them.  These striped tops from xxi were a steal at $8.50 each.  The fabric is thin but not see through (unless you are wearing colors underneath).  I almost got two of each color but had trouble finding my size.  They run small-ish.  I usually wear a small at xxi and I got a medium. I like my knits fitted but not tight.  The colors are nice; navy is bright and the red is orange-ish.  The yellow is wonderful! I am excited to find them online so I may have to get more more more!
